The Sword of Summer, by @camphalfblood
Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die...
The Sword of Summer is the first book in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series, by Rick Riordan. He's Rick Riordan on Facebook and @camphalfblood on Twitter. His official website is as amazing as his books and has lots of great data and useful stuff. And some extra things, I think. Holy shit! Okay, I just opened it and they did a re-designing thing and it's absolutely different. I can't decide if either this one's better, or the last design was.
I think I'll just copy-paste my improvised Facebook review.
I just finished reading The Sword of Summer!
It's the first book in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series, which is Rick Riordan's latest series.
As always, I loved the characters and the sass, and sarcasm and humor in this book. The characters-relationships and plot developments were absolutely awesome and the plot itself was stunning. As in every Rick Riordan book.
Of course it wasn't perfect. The writing is for middle-grade, so it's absolutely understandable the simplicty of it. But it's still there.
Also, some little details I honestly don't have time or patience to point out -and other not-so-little ones, are bothering me.
I found so many things in common with other books of his! Even the Kane Chronicles. The Volkswagen thing, and every other name-pun was a lot like the one with Nut... Yup, Kane Chronicles.
I'm pretty sure all those references where intentional. Especially after the one about Jason... Lol I freaking loved that one.
Rick Riordan's books will make you fall in love, obsess over them, etc, etc, etc. They will also make you go through, literally, mind and physical agony while waiting for the next book because he just seems to love leaving us hanging with one hand holding to the edge of a cliff that leads to Tartatus every time we read the end of one of his books.
Is it too soon guys? Idk, just get it over with already.
Basically, I want the next book. And the Trials of Apollo books. WHICH I SAID WOULD BE PUBLISHED BEFORE EVEN RICK RIORDAN DID, BTW. Told yah. Now the first book will be out soon!

The second book in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series is called (and if you read book one you'll laugh with me at this), 'The Hammer of Thor'. I know, hilarious, right? If you didn't understand, I'm basically commanding you to read the book and then come back and laugh with me.
Anyways, The Ha- Nope, can't say it. The second book will be out on April 10th of 2016. Yay!

The first book in the Trials of Apollo series is called (again, hilarious. But what else should or could we expect from Rick himself?), 'The Hidden Oracle'.
It'll be out on March 5th - Fuck yeah, motherfuckers. I'll have the book for my birthday, 2016.

The Trials of Apollo is another new series by Rick Riordan, and it'll feature, as a more important character than in Magnus Chase (because I'm hoping, begging, praying for him to appear, and I'm 99% sure he will), Percy Jackson. Once again. But, he's not the main character this time. Apollo is.
In The Blood of Olympus there was kind of a really open ending for Apollo, and Rick left us wondering what his punishment would be.Well, here's our answer. I'd post about it, but I don't like it without the cover, so I will when it's revealed. I'll leave the synopsis below this, though.
How do you punish an immortal?By making him human. After angering his father Zeus, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus. Weak and disorientated, he lands in New York City as a regular teenage boy. Now, without his godly powers, the four-thousand-year-old deity must learn to survive in the modern world until he can somehow find a way to regain Zeus's favour. But Apollo has many enemies - gods, monsters and mortals who would love to see the former Olympian permanently destroyed. Apollo needs help, and he can think of only one place to go . . . an enclave of modern demigods known as Camp Half-Blood.
I know, right? Doesn't it sound fucking amazing?
We already know The Trials of Apollo will be another five-books series, like PJO and and Heroes of Olympus.
Magnus Chase, though, will be a trilogy, like the Kane Chronicles. Unless there's a change of plans, but I don't think the plot can extend much further than three books.
YOU SHALL NOT READ THESE BOOKS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ EVERY SINGLE ONE OF RICK'S BOOKS PLACED IN THIS WORLD.
The order would be:
- The five books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
- The extras from the mentioned series (make no mistake, those are only The Demigod Diaries and The Demigod Files).
- The Kane Chronicles trilogy.
- The five books in the Heroes of Olympus series.
- The three ebook crossovers.
- Every other extra (there are quite a few).
- And then The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase #1).
- And then The Hidden Oracle (Trials of Apollo #1).
- And then The Ha- Sorry, I just can't hahahaha. Well, Magnus Chase #2.
SPECIFICALLY IN THAT ORDER. Or else, you'll miss lots of references and it would be like reading half a book. Plus, I'd kill you.
This book obviously gets five out of five stars. And I hardly give four-stars rating. Keep that in mind and read these damn books!
Guys, please read it and suffer with me. Even better, read all of them and fangirl in the comments or to my email so I can see you suffer and laugh. Hahaha.
xoxo
